About me

As the first Customer Experience Officer for the United States Department of Defense, I led the Customer Experience Officer Portfolio Management Office and helped bring customer experience principles into technology efforts across the nation’s largest employer. I advised the DoD Chief Information Officer and senior leaders on modernizing digital services for service members, civilians, and mission partners, work that earned the 2024 DefenseScoop Industry Leadership Award.

Before serving as CXO, I was General Manager at Rebellion Defense, where I helped build mission critical software for national security. Earlier, as a Digital Service Expert at the Defense Digital Service, I helped lead rapid response programs including the Basic Optical Biometric Analysis effort and Project Rabbit.

Today I advise companies on how to work effectively with the Department of Defense and other public sector organizations.

I am the author of Half Way Light, a memoir tracing three generations of American identity, and the host of two podcasts, Life Between Titles, which focuses on identity and transition during unemployment, and Office Hours, which features expert insight on HR, recruiting, leadership, and career navigation.

My broader career includes roles at Amazon, Kareo, Conenza, BlogTalkRadio, and Redfin, where I was the first employee and co author of the patented interactive map based real estate search technology. Across both public and private sectors, I have focused on building products and teams that serve people with clarity, purpose, and impact.
